ReFa’s unique “Carbon Layer Plates” are a technology that recreates the professional hairstylists’ damage-reducing techniques.
The three-layer structure consisting of high-density carbon, a heater, and a low-rebound coating is designed to deliver heat gently and evenly.
This prevents cuticle damage caused by the sudden “water vapor explosions”1 that arise when heat is applied to damp hair.
In addition, the low-rebound coating gently envelops your hair, keeping its three-dimensional structure intact without crushing it at all.
Since damage is minimized through precise control of water,heat, and pressure, curls stay smooth, defined, and long-lasting.

  • 1. An explosive phenomenon that arises when water vaporizes as a result of coming into contact with an extremely hot material.
  • 2. The test used untreated hair (hair that had never been colored, permed, or chemically processed) that had been sprayed with water. A ReFa CURL IRON PRO+ with no Carbon Layer Plates was used, and so was one that had them. In each case, using the iron at a setting of 180°C for two seconds five times was defined as one set. It was used for a total of 10 sets (equivalent to 10 days), then the hair surface was imaged using a scanning electron microscope.

  • 3. Test Method: A ReFa CURL IRON PRO+ with no Carbon Layer Plates and one equipped with them were each set to 180°C. Hair specimens were wrapped twice around each iron and heated for 10 seconds. After removing the irons, the specimens were photographed immediately. They were then placed in an environment at 24 ± 1 °C and 70 ± 5% humidity, and photographed again after 12 hours to record changes over time.

  • 1. Test Method: Artificially damaged hair was moisture-conditioned for over 24 hours in an environment with a temperature of 20°C and humidity of 65%. It was then wrapped around a ReFa CURL IRON PRO+ set to 180°C and held for 10 seconds. This was performed once. The moisture content relative to the dry weight of the hair was calculated based on our own evaluation criteria.

  • 2. Test Method: Conducted in an environment with a temperature of 22 ± 1°C and humidity of 50 ± 5%. The test subjects used a ReFa CURL IRON PRO+, then completed a questionnaire to evaluate the finished results. Test Subjects: 12 women aged 23 to 54 Note: Conducted by ourselves. Effects may vary from person to person. Note: The data reflects personal opinions. Note: We tallied up the number of people who answered “satisfied” or “very satisfied” in the questionnaire.

  • 3. Test Overview: The test was conducted in an environment maintained at 20 ± 5°C and 50 ± 5% humidity. Hair bundles were bleached once and then dyed with a coloring agent. These bundles were treated either with a ReFa CURL IRON PRO+ without Carbon Layer Plates or with one equipped with them. In each case, using the iron at 180°C for five seconds, repeated three times, was defined as one set. The process was repeated for a total of 15 sets (equivalent to two weeks), after which the hair surface was photographed.

  • 4. Test Method: The test used hair bundles that had been washed in an environment with a temperature of 23 ± 1°C and humidity of 70 ± 5%, then dried for five minutes using a hair dryer. The hair bundles were passed through a ReFa CURL IRON PRO+ set to 180°C from end to end for five seconds. This was defined as one set, and was repeated for a total of five sets. Before and after the hair iron treatment, the hair bundles were wrapped around a cylinder, then photographed under lighting to observe changes.
